What’s happening today? You can’t keep a talented girl down. Pia Tuscano, 9th place runner up for last year’s American Idol, just penned a contract with Interscope records. Idol fans knew that this girl wouldn’t be discouraged by her much contested departure last year. Interscope is run by Jimmy Iovine who was Pia’s Idol mentor during the contest last year. She’ll be recording at least three tracks with producer Rodney Jerkins of Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson fame. Her first single “This Time” written by Edna Dean and Rhianna is set to drop on July 12th. Not bad for 9th place!
More breaking news from the music industry, Justin Timberlake bought an ownership stake in the Myspace social media site and is now toying with the idea of creating a talent competition in an effort to revive its popularity among muscians and music lovers alike. His goal is to bring the focus back new and emerging music artists to the declining social media site. His manager, Johnny Wright, said that the pop star has been brainstorming ideas to revive interest in MySpace. Justin and crew are set to uncover more details of their plan at a press conference scheduled for August 17th.
It sounds like poor Taylor Swift is going to have to cancel three shows due to a bronchial infection. Her Atlanta, GA shows have been rescheduled for October 1-2 and the Charlotte, NC show has been reschduled for November 16. The young country/pop crossover star has had to cancel four shows so far and is expected to resume her tour on July 14th in Montreal if her doctor gives her the “OK.” The singer is disappointed that she has had to cancel the shows, but promises to make it up to fans by rescheduling the concerts.
