Have you heard the latest in music? If not, then remember the name Skrillex. Sonny Moore is the mastermind producer and performer behind Skrillex. He is a one man superstar of the new American electronica called dubstep. He grew up in Los Angeles, where Sonny met many artists and was influenced by everything from the Prodigy to Marilyn Manson, Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails. Skrillex is part of a new breed of artists that refuse to be limited by labels like ‘musician’ or the notion that they are part of a genre. Skrillex says he is not really any one style, although his style is a mix of dubstep, electronica and glitch all mixed into one. If you do not know what any of those words mean, they you may have some catching up to do. Skrillex is already hugely successful, he has no record label, no rock music company backing him or anything like a studio. Yet his 9 song EP SKRILLEX has had 8 songs hit the top 10 charts. Everyone is now asking Skrillex to be their remix mastering man. Check Skrillex out before the world ends, it’s the future of music as we know it.

Information about music and new artists, just like everything else in our fast-paced society, is continually changing and morphing, creating a fluid stream in which the casual onlooker and listener is unsure of where to jump in. Television, the Internet, and magazines are the best guides to what is happening in the local and global music scene. Still, it is difficult to keep pace with all the new band names, the latest shows, and when new records are being dropped. In other words, why even bother trying to keep up with all the changes and fads in music? Music is subjective. You know what bands and artist you like, therefore you will always know when they are planning new albums or touring in your area.

Music is something that is passed along amongst friends. This is where the greatest music knowledge comes from. Your peers are going to be into all styles and types of music, and perhaps from them you will be introduced to new bands. It is better to listen to what your friends are into than to pretend to like what is on the radio. Sometimes quoting more than a single note about music is hard work.More info here: Stereotypes in music

There are a plethora of musicians out there right now trying to get demos and full-length albums recorded in ways that save them money but don’t sacrifice on sound. It is important to have a sonically pleasing record to help draw in more fans to your music, though the unfortunate truth is that many of these artists are without the funds to create something of the same professional caliber as the artists they grew up listening to each day. Even so, it is possible to get an acceptable quality of work completed if these beginning musicians simply knew where to look.Is this new to you? Catch up here

In order for them to get the best sound for a shoestring budget, artists should be getting in touch with the latest music techs to make sure that they know exactly what to expect. By doing a little bit of homework and understanding how some costs are incorporated into the recording process, it is possible to save money and still have a body of work that shines. Any potential artist should be able to set up an appointment with the music tech of their choice in order to discuss exactly what they can expect to get out of their time in the studio.

This year Pearl Jam is going to celebrate their 20th anniversary together. If you have not heard of Pearl Jam you have either been living under a rock or you are not a fan of music. Coming out Seattle during the Grunge explosion, Pearl Jam was formed when former members of Mother Love Bone approached Eddie Vedder to join their new band after the death of their singer, Andrew Wood. Originally going by the name Mookie Blaylock, Pearl Jam quickly changed their name and released their first album, Ten in 1991.

In the twenty years since first forming, Pearl Jam has sold over 50 million albums and have contributed countless hits to many music lover’s playlists. Pearl Jam is responsible for early grunge favorites like Black, Daughter, and the haunting guitar of Yellow Ledbetter. More recent hits, though rarely played on the radio, include Nothing As It Seems, Man Of The Hour, The Fixer and Just Breathe.

Over the years, Pearl Jam’s line up has remained mostly unchanged. They have outlasted many of their grunge contemporaries and are currently working on their tenth studio album. This Labor Day to celebrate their 20th anniversary together, Pearl Jam will be holding a two day festival in East Troy, Wisconsin. The festival will feature many great rock acts and will be headlined by Pearl Jam.The information party rocks on: KEXP Documentaries: “Grunge” – Pearl Jam

In the current age of the music-industry, the desire to sound different from the crowd has created an increasing need for new technology and sounds. Not only are new instrument variations — the electric violin or hollow-bodied electric guitars come to mind immediately — sprouting up constantly, but so are the tools used to modify the sounds and frequencies of these instruments. Even the simplest of tools like the amplifier is being modified in eclectic and unusual ways to add traditional effects like reverb and more complex effects like amp overload or phasers– this job was originally reserved for effects pedals or post-recording processors.

Even more unusual is emergence of the sound processor that requires no sound. New “touch pad” synths and drum machines absolutely flood the music scene in emerging experimental genres such as “dubstep” or “industrial”. These same technologies are also being employed within the editing room to mix tracks together seamlessly without the slightest amount of sound-wave distortion.

When all of the different stages of productions mesh together the increasing amounts of technology, final tracks and entire albums begin to set themselves apart from the rest of the musical crowd– gaining popularity and quickly flying through the charts of culturally-accepted masterpieces.

Everyone loves summer. It’s a great time to get outside and enjoy nature. There are also a great variety of music events like concerts and festivals to attend to get some entertainment in the sun. It seems every major band tours in the summer so it is hard to choose which to attend.

For those looking to see a lot of bands all in one place for one fee festivals are a great option. This is especially true in the underground, but still very popular, jam band scene. The whole story can be found at http://radio923fm.radio.com/2011/06/07/coldplay-playing-new-songs-live/ There are festivals seemingly every weekend in this scene like Summer Camp, Electric Forest and the High Sierra Music Festival. These festivals all boast acts like Umphreys Mcgee, Moe., Widespread Panic and Pretty Lights that are huge in the jam and electron scenes today.

For those who are looking for a little more variety Lollapalooza may be a great festival to attend. The weekend long event is held in Grant Park in Chicago every year. This year the festival boasts headliners like My Morning Jacket, Coldplay, The Foo Fighters and Deadmau5. It is the most expansive festival of the summer in terms of different kinds of music that you can see in one place. For those not sure which events to attend this summer this may be a great event to check out. You are sure to see at least a few bands that you like over the course of the weekend.
